International Baccalaureate (IB)

What is an IB education?

The International Baccalaureate Organization (known as the IBO) offers four high-quality and challenging educational programmes for a worldwide community of schools, aiming to create a better and more peaceful world.

The International Baccalaureate (IB) consists of 4 programs:
Primary Years Program (PYP)
Middle Years Program (MYP)
Careers Related Program (CP)
Diploma Progam (DP)

Mälardalen International School is an authorized IB World School for the Primary and Middle Years Programme! In the November and January of 2024/2025,  our PYP and MYP completed the rigorous authorization process, and is now certified by the International Baccalaureate Organization. This milestone reflects our commitment to offering our students a high-quality, internationally-recognized education.

These are schools that share a common philosophy—a commitment to high quality, challenging, international education that Mälardalen International School believes is important for our students.

*Only schools authorized by the IB Organization can offer any of its four academic programmes: the Primary Years Programme (PYP), the Middle Years Programme (MYP), the Diploma Programme, or the Career-related Programme (CP).

The IB learner profile

The aim of all IB programmes is to develop internationally minded people who, recognizing their common humanity and shared guardianship of the planet, help to create a better and more peaceful world. As IB learners we strive to be:

Through the development of these learner profile attributes, an IB education seeks to empower young people for a lifetime of learning, both independently and in collaboration with others.

The IB Mission statement

The International Baccalaureate aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect. To this end the organization works with schools, governments and international organizations to develop challenging programmes of international education and rigorous assessment. These programmes encourage students across the world to become active, compassionate and lifelong learners who understand that other people, with their differences, can also be right.
